Bringing home your new kitten

Collars—Do not use collars on cats or kittens. EVER!!!

Food -- We feed Purina ONE kitten formula dry.  We have food available to the kittens full time until they are about 12 weeks of age.  We offer canned food 2-3 times a day to make sure they are eating well.  NEW KITTENS-- watch them eat to make sure they are eating well especially for the first few days.

Bowls-- glass, ceramic, stainless steel is best.  Try to avoid plastic.

Cat litter--– Traditional clay litter, Feline pine or Worlds best litters are great and Tidy cat clay litter is what we use most.

Litter box-- House training is pretty easy with kittens.  Kittens by nature are attracted to go potty in the litter.  Problems can arise if the kitten's box is too tough to get into or if the box has too many eliminations present or if they find it inconvenient to find it.  New kittens can never have too many litter boxes.  Over time—you may have fewer and fewer litter boxes.

Space:  For a new kitten coming to your new home it is best to convert a temporary a small space(like a bathroom or 1/2bath) to live in for the first few weeks.  Kitten proof this area by eliminating toilet cleaners, air fresheners and shut the lid on the toilet. Use this room for when you are not home or at night. Kittens with too much area (space) available to them will feel insecure and they will not know where the potty box is and will not know where to
go to the bathroom.

Restricting kittens to the small areas for the first few weeks will eliminate accidents and also reduce the risks that they will get into things while they are babies.   They should have a good supply if kitten safe toys a nice bed, and access to their litter box.

Other pets:  Going slow introducing the kittens to other pets is a must.  This introduction phase can take a week to do it best.

Kitten proofing: Try to remove all tiny things that they may get into for example-- string, dental floss, fishing lures, sewing items, liquid potpourri, shut toilet lids
